If you ever have the opportunity to see a total solar eclipse, take it.

It was a profoundly awe-inspiring experience that I was not emotionally prepared for. I watched this eclipse from the Central Oregon countryside in 2017. Seeing the sun blotted out, a black hole in the sky filled me with wonder, and a deep reverence for life.

When the light began to dim, the animals in nature, and on the farm, behaved like it was sunset. They fell silent during the few minutes of totality, then behaved as if waking up for a new day when the light came back again.
