July 16th, 2010 – Foot Hills Honey Company

Flowers ensure reproduction and diversity of the fruits and vegetables we eat.   Bees are biotic pollinators, moving pollen grains and enabling fertilization. The bee ensures the plant’s survival, the plant ensures the bee’s survival, and we benefit from varieties of delicious honey.

“Honey bees repairing hive damage.”

On assignment for Oregon Business magazine, I spent an afternoon at the Foothills Honey Company, photographing their bees and hives. The article is scheduled for publication in the October issue.

Checking any fears at the door, photographing the hives requires delicate movements, patience, and a little courage.  Forgoing  gloves to allow quicker and more accurate camera handling, after 3 hours of shooting I emerged unscathed – not a single sting.
